Dear Patsy,
In a recent newletter, Brenda wrote that she's unable to see tiny print. I'm unsure if this would help, but it's worth a try for her to go to "View" on her internet toolbar (assuming she has Internet Explorer), then to highlight "Text Size" and select "Largest".
If that's already been done and still isn't helpful, the only other option I can think of for Windows98, would be for her to see if she has the "Accessibility" option functioning :

Go to....Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>"Windows Setup" tab

If the top box called "Accessibility" isn't checked, she would need to place a checkmark in that box, and then insert her Windows CD to add these features, one of which is a "magnifier" tool.

Unfortunately, I am not familiar enough with those features to assist her in using them.

Hope this helps...even a little.

Dana  =)

Hi Patsy.
With reference to the clove cure for toothache:    I used to use that all the time (when needed), and recommended it for my husband when he had a shocking pain and couldn't get to the dentist until the next day. HOWEVER, he was advised by the dentist that clove oil is tissue-toxic (ie:  it can kill the gum tissue it comes in contact with) and that it was also possibly carcinogenic!  Who do you believe?  I can't say that I've had any problems in the past, nor has my father (who told me about it) - I guess it's a matter of whether you use it as a first aid treatment, or whether you are using it on a more regular basis (and should probably go to the dentist anyway).
Thanks for your newsletters.

Love your letters! I thought that some people could use this knowledge: In 1987, the Boren Act was passed, regarding getting unemployment. If you have to quit your job because of a sick child or elderly person living with you......so that you may care for them, you CAN get unemployment................you will probably need to explain to the Employment office about the Act. It is called the Boren Act. I know, as I was the first one to receive money due to it. You must write a letter to your employer, explaining WHY you are quitting......the illness and the relative who you will be caring for.............get a doctor to back it up, if possible. Take the letter and the dr's note to the Employment office, and GET YOUR money!  Hope this helps some people! Gladys Gantt, scarf21@hotmail.com................

Carpet cleaner and stain remover

3 Tablespoons White Vinegar
1 Tablespoon powder detergent (I prefer Tide, without bleach)
1 Quart of warm water

Mix well and apply with a scrub brush. Scrub area let sit a minute and then blot with an old towel until you can’t pick up any more moisture and the towel is pretty clean. If it doesn’t get all of the stain out the first time, try again. It is amazing! I’ve been using this for 22 years! Even my sons have asked for the recipe.
Thank you again for all of your work on our behalf. God Bless You.

Hi Patsy,
When my son was 12, he was hit by a car and injured severely. Because he had to wear a kind of brace on his foot while he was recuperating, sometimes the foot odor was quite "offensive"....and he was unable to take a proper shower or bath....
We had a visiting nurse come to the house to make sure I was making the proper bandage changes; I mentioned the situation to her. She told me to use plain old antiperspirant on his foot. IT REALLY WORKS!! We found that the roll on works the best...it helped to make the summer a little more bearable; and I suppose this remedy would work for anyone with "stinky" feet!

I dont know if you put this in your newsletter or not, I love your newsletter by the way, it is very helpful. Well here is my tip, if you want to get all of the hair spray and gel out of your hair, take some baking soda, about maybe a tablespoon and make a paste out of it. Put it in your hair and massage it in like you were washing it. Then rinse with warm water, and then wash your hair with your normal shampoo, this will get all of that out,  also if you want fuller hair add about a tablespoon of honey to your shampoo. Thanks for a great letter.

I used to work in pain management and had many people with disc problems. Try asking your dr about epidural injections. I know that sounds terrible, but its not as painful as it sounds. they do an epidural injection (kind of like when you are having a baby) and inject some cortisone into the epidural space. What that does is releive some of the swelling and cause alot of the pain to go away. It is usually done in 3 injections, once a week for 3 weeks. (My advise would be to have a Pain Management specialist or neurosureon do it!)

Hi Patsy,
When I was growing up......in a family of 6 children....one of us was usually sick as soon as the school year started and germs were passed around. When one got sick, we ALL got sick!
My mother used to make "onion syrup"........basically it was a sliced onion covered with a liberal dose of sugar to make a syrup.  The onion smell would clear our sinuses, and the sugary syrup would soothe our throats. But it was awful!!! It worked, though.
She was from Maine...maybe there is a regional thing or something, I just know that whenever the first child got sick, there was a teaspoon of onion syrup waiting.....and my mom would keep making more until we were better.

TIPS FOR FREEZING CASSEROLES
** To freeze a fully baked casserole ** Begin by pre-lining your casserole dish with heavy-duty aluminum foil, leaving enough of an overhang on all sides to cover & seal the food later. Assemble the casserole, laying it in the lined pan & bake as directed, then cool to room temperature. Put in freezer just until frozen (about 1/2 to 1 hour & it's not necessary to seal it up for this short freezing time). Once the casserole is frozen, use the excess foil overhang & seal airtight. Double wrap the foil wrapped casserole in freezer proof plastic bags, label, date it, then freeze until ready to use.
** To thaw & Reheat **
Remove the wrapping & place the frozen food back into the dish in which it was baked in, cover & defrost in refrigerator overnight. When reheating, cover & reheat in a 350 degree oven. To test for doneness, insert a knife in the center of the food. When it is hot to the touch when removed it is hot throughout.

ONION STORAGE TIPS
Store onions in a cool, dry place with good air circulation
and away from bright light and out of any direct sunlight.
Place onions at least one foot away from walls to provide
air movement.
DO NOT store whole onions in plastic bags as lack of air
circulation reduces storage life.
DO NOT store onions with potatoes as potatoes give off
moisture that can cause onions to spoil.

To rescue overcooked broccoli: Chop it fine and toss it with rice and seasonings, sprinkle over baked potatoes, and top with melted cheese- - Raw broccoli, cup for cup, has twice as much vitamin C as an orange and almost as much calcium as milk.
